SC’s Industrial Chemicals (IC) business unit produces world-class salt products, chlor-alkali products, chlorinated hydrocarbons (such as MCA), energy and DME. IC is mainly located in the Netherlands and Germany. However, it has a global presence with plants and joint ventures in Denmark, Sweden, Spain, China and Japan.

The key to the ongoing success of IC is the continuous improvement by applying Lean Six Sigma (L6S). Akzo Nobel enable their employees to imagine and implement innovative ways of working and serving their customers. Within this context, your mission as a Project Manager, is to further develop this environment by acting as a L6S Black Belt Project Manager.

Your core responsibility will be to lead, inspire and work with teams of subject matter experts in order to drive improvements. In this hands-on role, you will interact with, and influence, all levels of their organization – from the shop floor to the boardroom. As such, this is an exciting opportunity for someone who can encourage others to excel. It is also a role, where team dynamics, a constantly changing work environment, and a wide variety of project topics (from technical projects on site to projects improving business processes in e.g. HR) combine, to create an excellent opportunity to develop yourself both personally and professionally.

From your home base in Mariager, you will act as a valued member of a central team of 15 L6S Black Belts, who are located all over the BU, reporting to the Master Black Belt who is located in Amsterdam. The central team facilitates your development into the role by focusing on knowledge sharing. To ensure that you are fully prepared to succeed, you will embark an extensive Black Belt training and certification program. This includes the execution of important manufacturing or business projects, which benefit the overall performance of the company and play an active role in promoting the continuous improvement mindset within the organization. Based on your home location, you will carry out and participate in projects all over BU Industrial Chemicals.

Candidate profile

• A Masters qualification, preferably in a ‘technical’ direction such as Engineering, Marine Engineer or equivalent
• Between three and eight years of relevant working experience. Experience within manufacturing is an advantage
• An appetite to work with- and make decisions based on data
• Continuous improvement mindset
• Willing and able to travel more than 100 working days per year
• A high standard of written and spoken English, with Dutch or German as an advantage
